Assessment Process and Fees
PSYCHOLOGICAL ASSESSMENT PROCESS
STEP 1
INTERVIEW
In our initial interview, we want to understand what you or your child are facing. This helps us decide whether testing will be helpful and, if so, which tests to use.
We can assess and diagnose learning issues, ADHD, autism, emotional and behavioural challenges, trauma, and more.
When working with children (we assess school-age and older) and teens, we usually meet with parents alone and with the child/teen alone so everyone has space to speak freely.
By the end of this first appointment, our goal is to have a clear assessment plan and a rough estimate of time and cost. As we move through testing, we may occasionally recommend additional tests if we discover concerns that weren’t anticipated. We’ll always explain why and discuss any changes with you before moving ahead.
STEP 2
TESTING
Although a clinical interview gives us an important starting point, testing often provides a much clearer picture. We use up-to-date, research-based assessment tools that can go beyond what conversation alone can show.
Testing usually happens over a few appointments and can include activities such as problem-solving tasks, questionnaires, rating scales, and structured activities.
Depending on the type of assessment, testing may be completed by a Psychologist, Psychological Associate, School Psychologist, or trained Testing Clerk working under supervision.
STEP 3
REPORT
Once testing is complete, we meet with you to go over the results in plain language and answer your questions.
You’ll receive a written report that includes:
– a summary of the testing and findings
– any diagnoses (if present)
– clear recommendations for home, school, work, and/or treatment options
You can share this report with medical professionals, schools, or other agencies to help coordinate support.
STEP 4
Ready to Talk About an Assessment?
If you’re wondering whether an assessment is right for you or your child, the next step is simply a conversation – (204) 201-0751.
When you contact our office, we can answer your questions, explain the process, and, if it seems like a good fit, schedule an initial interview (Step 1). There’s no obligation to book—reaching out just helps you see what your options are.
ASSESSMENT TIMELINE
We realize that time matters in these situations. Our goal is to schedule the feedback session 2–4 weeks after all testing is completed.
We are generally able to have the full written report ready within 10 working days following the feedback session.
ASSESSMENT FEES
We bill by the hour at the recommended professional rate. After the first interview, we provide a rough estimate of how many hours your assessment is likely to take so you have a sense of the overall cost.
You may be able to claim portions of the assessment cost through your insurance plan. Our admin team can provide the information you’ll need for reimbursement.
We ask clients to provide a credit card for billing, and we let you know in advance before any major changes to the original estimate.
